So I guess the Advocate listed Tucson as one of the top 10 gay-friendly cities in the country. Although I wouldn't debate that we're not the /worst/, you'd think the recent, you know, gay bashing DEATH in the alley behind the gay coffeeshop would hinder the cause. It's not bad, but it isn't terrific, either. If I was just going to pick the most gay-friendly city in AZ, I'd probably go with Flagstaff. And I'm sure there are at least 50 other better cities if you've got the whole U.S. to comb through. Pretty much all the extravagant claims I've read about Tucson, from #3 bike-friendly to #7 best place to live, prompt a reaction that can best be summed up with, "Oh, really?" The only one I subscribe to is the #1 crime rate in the nation. (Dear Phoenix people: don't gloat, y'all aren't far behind!)
