I'm grateful for 8 hours of sweet, soft, pure sleep. For cranberrry-peach juice and for kiwis and grapes. For Ray Bradbury and Cormac McCarthy and Max Cannon. For shiny things and lightly scented things. For rain in the desert and a warm dry place to live in. For the Cold War Kids and the Decemberists and Elliott Smith. For welcomes and for gentleness. For darkness and humor sticky-black as tar. For movies that swallow you in their dismal reality, and for ones that swaddle you in a comforting treacle. For the feeling of dirt on the soles of your sandals.
