If I want to search my own lj, looking for a friends-locked entry, is there anything I can do besides thumbing through ALL the old entries?

I really need to get on the tagging....

If you're still in linux, install logjam, choose to synchronize old entries, and you can use a search. That seems to be the only reasonable option, an issue I ran into a couple of days ago. There doesn't seem to be a decent solution for Apple.
